Sitting in the Dark + Becoming a Death Doula Reflections

Hi loves,
Today, as the snow falls, I am struck with the medicine of this time of year. When it is dark and quiet.
I love this time of year and even in the awareness I carry, it challenges me.
At this time of the year, right before the Solstice, I usually feel some agitation and intensity amidst the unknown.
This year, it is manifesting as an experience of being asked to sit with what I already know before reaching for more.
A radical idea.
With so much information available, it can often feel like there is an insatiable thirst inside.
A bottomless pit, always reaching for more, more, more. More dopamine. More validation. More answers. More analysis. MORE, MORE, MORE.
But the other day, I had an experience of being guided into a trance-like meditative state.
And the information that awaited me was a big fat sign telling me to pause and integrate what I ALREADY KNOW.
Again, what a radical idea!
At first, I was annoyed. I mean, new guidance and information feel way sexier than sitting in the dark with what you already know and figuring out what to do with it.
But today I am reminding myself that few things get to remain a mystery these days.
And instead of reaching outward for more, going down and in, is powerful magic.
I am currently sitting with several creative ideas to continue gathering folks to lean into death work as a result of the workshop I held last month: Becoming a Death Doula.
& the process of creation, especially in death work, often exists outside of linear time and that can certainly be frustrating for the mind.
But I firmly believe that part of the ask for those of us drawn to this realm is to recode our collective consciousness in a way that includes the wisdom of the mystery. Of the dark.
Carrying that wisdom translates into not controlling the death process. Not interfering with the wisdom of nature.
So, I am here, doing my best to complete that assignment. Allowing this dark part of the year to be a teacher.
So that I can be an even more solid presence of support, as someone else navigates the dark.
